Indices closed in red as a result of price losses in counters such as Hemas Holdings, Ceylon Beverage Holdings and Distilleries whilst turnover crossed Rs 1.4 Bn. High net worth and institutional investor participation was witnessed in Commercial Bank and National Development Bank. Mixed interest was observed in Seylan Bank  nonvoting, Lanka Walltiles and Distilleries whilst retail interest was noted in Sanasa Development Bank and First Capital Holdings. Meanwhile, foreigners remained active closing as net sellers mainly due to foreign selling in Commercial Bank and National Development Bank. Total foreign sales accounted for 42.1% of turnover.

Banks, Finance and Insurance sector was the top contributor to the market turnover (due to Commercial Bank, National Development Bank, Seylan Bank - nonvoting and Hatton National Bank) whilst the sector index gained 0.49%. The share price of Commercial Bank decreased by Rs 0.20 (0.12%) closing at Rs 165.00 whilst foreign
holdings decreased by 1,611,377 shares. The share price of National Development Bank lost Rs 1.00 (0.36%) closing at Rs 275.00 whilst foreign holdings decreased by 678,385 shares. The share price of Seylan Bank - nonvoting moved up by Rs 1.00 (1.12%) to close at Rs 80.90. The share price of Hatton National Bank closed flat at Rs 230.00.

Manufacturing sector was the second highest contributor to the market turnover (due to Lanka Walltiles) whilst the sector index increased by 0.49%. The share price of Lanka Walltiles recorded a gain of Rs 3.30 (2.83%) to close at Rs 119.90.
