The stock market operations showed a significant improvement
over the past week with an average daily turnover of LKR 2.24 bn.
This performance was strongly influenced by the sale of 2,196,533
shares of Ceylinco Insurance PLC for a consideration of LKR 3.50
bn by CIESOT (pvt) Ltd on the 14th of May. But even excluding this
extra ordinary transaction the stock market performance has
improved, compared to previous weeks with daily turnover
exceeding LKR 1.00 bn on a daily basis.
The ASPI showed an improvement of 44.72 points and closed at
7,289.77 while the S&P SL20 improved by 12.67 points to 4,073.52
from 4,060.85. The total turnover was LKR 11.18 bn for the week.
The banking, Finance and Insurance sector became the largest
contributor to market turnover with 71.46% contribution.
The week experienced a net foreign inflow of LKR 3.09 bn resulted
by foreign purchases of LKR 4.59 bn and foreign sales of LKR 1.50
bn. The significant growth in foreign purchases was mainly driven
by the Ceylinco Insurance share transaction
