The price losses in counters such as Carson Cumberbatch,
Nestle Lanka and Good Hope resulted in indices closing in red
whilst turnover crossed Rs 1.6 Bn. High net worth and
institutional investor participation was witnessed in Sampath
Bank, Seylan Bank, DFCC Bank and John Keells Holdings.
Mixed interest was observed in Seylan Bank - nonvoting whilst
retail interest was noted in Regnis (Lanka), Panasian Power and
Sinhaputhra Finance. Meanwhile, foreigners remained active
closing as net sellers mainly due to foreign selling in DFCC
Bank.
Banks, Finance and Insurance sector was the top contributor to the
market turnover (due to Sampath Bank, Seylan Bank, Seylan Bank -
nonvoting and DFCC Bank) whilst the sector index gained 0.62%.
The share price of Sampath Bank increased by Rs 3.10 (1.17%) to
close at Rs 268.00. The share price of Seylan Bank gained Rs 4.20
(3.72%) to close at Rs 117.00. The share price of Seylan Bank -
nonvoting moved up by Rs 3.60 (4.88%) to close at Rs 77.40. The
share price of DFCC Bank appreciated by Rs 1.90 (0.90%) closing
at Rs 213.80 whilst foreign holdings decreased by 305,000 share
