The market barely budged as at the day’s closure, closing flat from its previous day. The Benchmark index managed to gain marginally while the S&P SL20 too ended within the positive terrain. As at the daily closure benchmark ASPI settled marginally green at 7,255.71 up by 2.21 points or 0.03%. The S&P SL20 ended with a gain of 4.18 points or 0.10% to close the day at 4,035.04. On a broader note,
75 companies gained whereas 111 witnessed drops in share prices. SMB Leasing PLC [X] (+33.3%) headed the gainers while Blue Diamonds PLC [X] (-15.7%) became the top loser for the day. The aggregated turnover for the day amounted to LKR 1,383.50Mn, indicating a dip of 7.12% against the previous trading day. Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC (COMB) emerged as the prime contributor under the top subscriber list providing LKR 514.59Mn solely accounting to 37.20% of the total
turnover, while grabbing noteworthy institutional within the day’s trading. The counter saw a total of 6 crossings which amounted to LKR 355.06Mn, where a total of 2.16Mn were blocked at prices LKR 164/- and LKR 165/-. COMB ended the day at LKR 165.90/-, with a gain of LKR 0.80/- or 0.48%. John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) stood next in line by adding LKR 130.64Mn to the daily turnover, and settled the day at LKR 200/-, indicating a drop of LKR 0.60/- or 0.30%. Hatton National Bank PLC (HNB) and Union Bank of Colombo PLC (UBC) made a contributions of LKR 91.53Mn and LKR 90.43Mn respectively to the turnover and settled the day at LKR 228.90/- (indicating a drop of LKR 1.10/- or 0.48%) and LKR 25.20/- (charting a gain of LKR 0.20/- or 0.80%). Moreover, the three prime contributors to the daily turnover COMB, JKH and HNB accounted to nearly 53.4% of it.
