Once again, the market ended within the red terrain recording its 2nd consecutive negative closure, whilst opening the month on a negative note. Leaving aside
several top subscribers to the daily turnover, on a broader note most counters witnessed a considerable selling pressure, and with the fall in several index heavy stocks such as NEST.N (down by LKR 51/- or 2.32% to settle at LKR 2,149/-) AHUN.N (down by LKR 5.50/- or 6.78% to settle at LKR 75.60/-), DIST.N (down by LKR 4.20/- or 1.50% to settle at LKR 275.10/-) and JKH.N (down by LKR 1.10/- or 0.56% to settle at LKR 194/-) etc. the benchmark index fell by 25.10 points to settle the day at 7,195.19. Mirroring this, the S&P SL20 too fell by 14.49 points or (0.36%) to close the day at 3,986.17. With regard to the movement in share prices, 126 counters witnessed drops whereas only 65 companies posted gains.

The turnover for the day amounted to LKR 730.76Mn, indicating a drop of 42.13% compared to the previous trading day. John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) added LKR 161.03Mn to the turnover while spearheading the list, whilst securing the sixth slot amidst the highly traded counters of the day as well; the turnover generated by the counter which solely accounted to over 20% of the day’s aggregate turnover, was partly a result of foreign interest. JKH saw a total of 114K shares being blocked at a price of LKR 194.70/- by way of a crossing which totaled up to record LKR 22.21Mn. Having fallen to a fresh 52 week low earlier today at LKR 193.90/-, as at the daily closure JKH stood at LKR 194/- having dropped by LKR 1.10/- or 0.56%. Standing next in line, Hatton National Bank PLC (HNB) made a subscription of LKR 65.35Mn to daily turnover. As at the day’s close HNB stood at LKR 228/- witnessing a
drop of LKR 0.60/- or 0.26%.
